OUR MISSION
Elevating moments into memories through inspiration and innovation.
PAUL BOSC SR.

Founder

Paul Bosc Sr. was more than a winemaker - he was a visionary who helped shape the very foundation of Ontario’s wine industry. As one of the founding fathers of Niagara’s modern wine movement, Paul’s mission was bold: to prove that European-style vinifera wines could thrive in Ontario’s unique climate and soils. In 1978, he planted his first vineyards at St. David’s Bench, setting the stage for Chateau des Charmes to become a pioneer and benchmark for quality Canadian wine.

Our Leadership Today: Chateau des Charmes is proud to be guided by a new generation of leadership that blends respect for tradition with a forward-looking vision. Led by industry powerhouses with deep roots and bold vision in the wine world - the winery is embarking on a transformative journey to elevate its position as a premier wine destination in Canada. With renowned wine professionals Anne Givens and Marco Piccoli stepping into joint CEO roles, Anne as President overseeing Sales, Marketing and Hospitality, and Marco as Chief Operating Officer, this dynamic leadership duo brings complementary strengths, strategic clarity, and shared passion for the brand. Together, they are redefining what it means to experience Chateau des Charmes.

OUR VINEYARDS
ST. DAVID'S BENCH

Set into the gentle slopes of Niagara’s glacial escarpment, Chateau des Charmes farms 120 acres of estate vineyards, including 72 acres (29 ha) on St. David’s Bench, one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s most distinctive sub-appellations. With elevations between 105 and 145 metres, this unique terroir benefits from early spring warmth, cool late-season breezes, and rich underground limestone runoff, all of which give our wines their refined structure and signature minerality.

Planting began in the early 1990s, with the first harvest in 1994. That same year, we installed what remains the most extensive vineyard under-drainage system in the world, ensuring consistently healthy, well-drained soils across every block. Today, these vineyards allow us to craft expressive single-varietal wines—from mineral-driven whites to bold, age-worthy reds—that capture the essence of St. David’s Bench.

At Chateau des Charmes, winemaking is built on the balance of legacy, terroir, and innovation. From pioneering one of the world’s most extensive under-drainage systems to leading research in vineyard practices and advancing sustainable water management, everything we do is designed to protect our land and elevate the wines we craft. These practices are not just methods—they are the foundation of the Chateau des Charmes promise.

SUSTAINABILITY

Since our very first vines were planted in 1978, we’ve believed that caring for the land is simply the right thing to do. Long before “eco-friendly” became a trend, we were already farming in ways that respected the soil, the vines, and the community around us.

Today, Chateau des Charmes is proud to be a charter member of Sustainable Winemaking Ontario, the first program of its kind in Canada and winner of the Minister’s Award for Environmental Excellence. Certification spans everything we do—from our vineyards and cellar to our hospitality spaces—because sustainability is woven into the fabric of our winery.

No herbicides

We control weeds by working the soil, which also aerates vine roots and naturally returns nutrients to the earth.

By-products return to the land

Stems, skins, and seeds are composted as natural fertilizer.

Minimal intervention

Pest control is used only when absolutely necessary, and natural products like sulphur are applied in the smallest amounts possible.

Healthy soils

Compost and manure replenish nutrients instead of chemical fertilizers, and under-drainage protects vines from root rot.

In the Winery

Our winemaking spaces are designed to minimize energy and waste:

  • Geothermal cellars remain cool and consistent year-round, without heating or air conditioning.

  • Water recycling. The site is home to our Grey Water Management and Recovery Program, which captures cellar wash water, filters it naturally, and recycles it for use throughout the estate- demonstrating our commitment to responsible water use.

  • Lightweight bottles lower our carbon footprint each vintage.

  • Natural corks and PEFC-certified barrels ensure packaging materials are responsibly sourced.
