"Château des Charmes is a winery you can't miss as you drive along York Road just west of St. David's. In the middle of their manicured vineyards, the Bosc family have built a Loire-style château that doesn't look out of place against the Escarpment. It's a prominent landmark that reflects the long term contribution the Bosc family has made to Ontario wine."

- Rod Phillips,
Ontario Wine Country, 2006

The Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard grows only the finest vitis vinifera grape varieties. Low yields, superb terroir and advanced viticultural techniques produce wines of great elegance and finesse.

2005 Equuleus, Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard
(V.Q.A. Niagara Peninsula)

Print Tasting Note
The 2005 Equuleus is a classically styled blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot. Equuleus is only produced in exceptional vintages and is notable for its age worthiness and concentration. Aged for one year in French Tronçais and Allier oak barrels, Equuleus is rich and full bodied with flavours of cassis and dark chocolate. Equuleus is the name of the “Little Horse” constellation, best seen when it rises in the night sky at harvest time every September. This equine symbol celebrates Château des Charmes’ founder Paul Bosc’s passion for Egyptian Arabian horses which are stabled at the Paul Bosc Estate, the family’s home vineyard. Ready to drink now, but will continue to develop in the bottle for 5-10 years. 883 cases produced. Harvested September 30, 2005.

“The horse is back, bigger, stronger and better than ever. Château des Charmes’ Equuleus is made from grapes harvested across the road at the Paul Bosc Vineyard and it is only made in the best years.  The last time it surfaced was in 2002.  This wine is a full on balls-to-the-wall red with a mixture of black and red fruit, strawberry, raspberry and cassis.  The taste does not disappoint from the promise of the nose, following through with the dark fruits that include blackberries and black cherries.  The tannins are smooth and supple, while the acidity keeps everything in check.  What does this all mean to you?  A wine that’ll age 10 years or more and get better with age … with all the elegance and finesse you’d expect from a wine bearing the Château des Charmes name “Equuleus”.”

2004 Riesling Icewine, (SOLD OUT)
Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard
(V.Q.A. Niagara
Peninsula)
Print Tasting Note
This famous dessert wine is produced exclusively from the Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard. The fruit is harvested in the winter at a maximum temperature of -10 degrees Celsius or colder when it is frozen solid on the vine. The frozen grapes are then pressed and the resultant nectar exudes aromas of apricot and honey with a fine overall balance between fruit flavours, sweetness and acidity. Icewine is a gift of winter to be enjoyed on its own or served with dessert.

Château des Charmes' renowned icewines have won numerous national and international awards including the International Wine and Spirit Competition Trophy in London, England where it was judged "Best Icewine Worldwide." 385 cases produced. Harvested December 20, 2004.

“The Exceptional 2004 Paul Bosc Estate Riesling Icewine. If you don’t get Ontario wine, you haven’t tried this one. From Niagara’s Château des Charmes, this honey-kissed, apricot-edged stunner is arguably the best Icewine, anywhere, that money can buy.”

Toronto Life, December, 2007

“Aromas of peach, apple, mango, tangerine and floral notes. Bright acidity is a nice counterpoint to the sweet fruit. Very good concentration, balance and length. Shining example of why riesling is the top icewine grape in Canada and Château des Charmes has a stellar reputation for this style.”
