2006 Chardonnay Musqué, Estate Bottled (V.Q.A. Niagara Peninsula)
Chardonnay Musqué is a unique clone of Chardonnay that was pioneered in the Niagara Peninsula by Château des Charmes’ founder Paul Bosc. 2006 Chardonnay Musqué is pale gold in colour with a wonderful aromatic bouquet of spiced fruit and honeysuckle. This full bodied Chardonnay is non-oaked in order to allow the wine to fully express it’s unique musqué characteristic. 486 cases produced. Harvested October 10, 2006.
“From a unique clone of chardonnay pioneered by founder Paul Bosc, this is a lively, spicy treat on the nose. Grapefruit, citrus, lychee nut and honeysuckle aromas. It's full-bodied and lush on the palate -- think New Zealand sauvignon blanc crashing into spicy Alsatian gewurz-traminer ... all that and a scoop of white pepper for good measure. You've got to try it to believe it.”
– Rick VanSickle, Toronto Sun, March, 2008
"Aromatic and perfumed on the nose, this evolves into a wonderful mélange of rich, spicy and sweet flavours. It's medium-plus in weight, with a mouth-filling, plush texture. Delicious, and an excellent choice for slightly spicy dishes featuring pork, chicken or seafood. 4 stars. Very good.”
– rodphillipsonwine.com, Winepointer, March, 2008
“This bottle of wine is lots of fun – or should I say, this bottle contains lots of fun … either way I can’t see not enjoying yourself with this wine around. The apples pulsate up from the glass and really get into the nose, from there you’ll deal with a spicy-floral character in the mouth and a wonderful mac apple finish … Fun? You bet.”
– Michael Pinkus, ontariowinereview.com, March, 2008
“A lovely essence of happiness. Notes of pear, peach, melon and sunshine. 89 pts.” – Natalie Maclean, nataliemaclean.com, February, 2008
"Musque is a clone of Chardonnay unique to Ontario. Here it expresses its richness and depth, beginning with a jasmine flavour and honey notes, then opening to sweet grapefruit and cantaloupe, with a spicy impression that brings to mind cracked pepper and star anise."
– Dan Kislenko, The Hamilton Spectator, March, 2008
“This is one of the most intense, spicy – indeed peppery – musque’s I’ve experienced. Powerful with a rich viscous palate. Beyond the spice you’ll also pick up the lavender, and grapefruit common to this clone; plus a note of tangerine peel. Full bodied, creamy and spicy. Mindful of rich Austrian gruner veltliner. Excellent length.”
– David Lawrason, winerytohome.com, July, 2007
Food Pairings Chardonnay Musqué is best enjoyed with grilled chicken or salmon or on its own as an aperitif.

“This black label “estate” riesling from some of the older Bosc family vines has a solid ten year track record. The 2006 is a lighter year, with brisk, tart acidity driving the palate. 2005 Pinot Noir, Estate Bottled (V.Q.A. Niagara Peninsula)
Produced in small lots from 100% estate-grown Pinot Noir grapes, this fine wine is vinified according to traditional Burgundian methods including aging in small Allier oak barrels. Ruby in colour, velvety smooth in the mouth with a complex and lingering cherry flavour. 981cases produced. Harvested September 15, 2005.
“Pinot Noir is quickly establishing itself as Ontario's trademark red. The grape is notoriously difficult requiring specific climatic conditions to ripen properly. The fantastic 2005 vintage was ideal for Ontario Pinot Noir, as this effort by Château des Charmes displays. The dark cherry and mushroom aromas are backed up by a refreshing vein of acidity. My note: This pinot is lovely and rustic with the soul of the earth in its heart. Pair with: roast fowl with jus. 88 pts.”
– Natalie MacLean, nataliemaclean.com, September, 2007
“Clear medium-deep ruby strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, luscious, ripe juicy red fruits. Dry, silky tannins, good acidity, medium intensity, medium bodied, medium alcohol. An easy drinking, very fruit forward Pinot. 4 stars.”
- Zoltan Szabo, winerytohome.com, March, 2007
Food Pairings This Pinot Noir is finely matched with game, meats, rich pastas or strong cheeses.
